Established in February 1972 under Federal Law No. 1, issued by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Ministry of Education is the federal body responsible for regulating education in the United Arab Emirates. It operates from Dubai with offices in Abu Dhabi and Ajman, and is led by H.E. Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri as Minister of Education.
The Ministry sets national policy, owns the UAE National Curriculum, licenses teachers and accredits higher education institutions. In 2025 it became one of the first education authorities anywhere to make artificial intelligence a formal school subject from kindergarten through Grade 12.
Education in the UAE is federated. Some responsibilities sit with the Ministry, and others sit with emirate-level authorities.

Announced in May 2025 and rolled out from the 2025–2026 academic year, artificial intelligence is now taught as a formal subject in every UAE government school. It sits inside the existing Computing, Creative Design and Innovation course, so no additional teaching hours were required. There are no written examinations — students are assessed through practical projects.
